And Recent Updates

MAARC, Inc. operates club stations under the above call signs.  The first Club sponsored station was established under call sign, VE1EV.

VE1EV was originally held by SK Gorely Brown, who was elected the Club’s first Secretary when the Club was established in 1936.  Gorely remained an active member until the late 1960s.  Call sign VE9MSR (Moncton Seniors Radio) was held by the Moncton Seniors ARC, Inc. during its existence.  When the Seniors Club became inactive, the call was reassigned to MAARC, Inc.

VE9MSC (Moncton Space Center) was assigned to the Club space station when it was extablished at the BM High School and is the call sign used in operation of the Club’s space station, now located at Club rooms on Halifax Street.

Recently, MAARC, Inc. acquired computer equipment which has been interfaced with each of the Club’s HF transceivers. The computer interface using N1MM software enables the operator to take advantage of several automatic control, operating and logging features while using any of the Club HF transceivers.

The acquisition of computer terminals was arranged with the much valued  assistance of Warren MacKnight, VE9MA.  Installation and interfacing with HF transceivers was set up by Club member “JP” LeBlanc, VE9BK, assisted by Club President, Marcel LeBlanc, VE9ML.

At the Club’s November meeting, “JP” gave a presentation and demonstration of the N1MM computer controlled logging and radio control system.  The N1MM software has many features which can be activated at the station operator’s discretion to automate not only logging, but also a range of station control functions valuable in contesting.

One advantage of the N1MM program is a feature that enables remote control of a distant transceiver via the Internet.  For Club members faced with HF restrictions in apartment type complexes this is a very attractive advantage.  Internet service is installed at the Club rooms and one of the Club’s transceivers can be made available for this feature.

“JP” is prepared to make another presentation at the Club’s January meeting.  It is planned to have a large screen available to better display the various features of the program as they appear on the computer monitor.  We encourage all members to attend and actively participate in this presentation.

Many thanks to “JP” for his efforts on this project and his very well conducted presentations.  Please click on the link below to view his documentation on the N1MM software.
