WAPA (Worked Atlantic Provinces Award)

Marcel & Wayne

Marcel & Hinson

The WAPA "Worked Atlantic Provinces Award" is sponsored by the Moncton Area Amateur Radio Club, Inc.  It is sometimes said that, like charity, achievement begins at home.  Two members of MAARC recently qualified for WAPA recognition.  At the February Club meeting, Hinson Calkin, VE9CX, and Wayne Gillcash, VE1RR, were presented with WAPA Certificates by Club President, Marcel LeBlanc, VE9ML

MAARC Vertical Base Installation - 01/23/2010

Below are few informal shots taken when Marcel, VE9ML, Warren MacKnight, VE9MA, Hinson Calkin, VE9CX, and Bill Gillis, VE1WG, took advantage of a sunny but cold Saturday morning to mount a new bracket and support pipe for the HF R7 Vertical Antenna at the MAARC Club Rooms. The structural framework after completion of inside work is ready for next stage installation of the HF R7 vertical antenna and its feedline.
It's a well known axiom that antennas erected in the dead of winter on a very cold day will perform far better than a radiator installed on a warm summer day. Excellent results for the new vertical are anticipated.

Ouch!

He survived!

Look w-a-y up!

...is it OK?

Don't shake the ladder!

Thanks to antenna crew:
Marcel LeBlanc, VE9ML, Warren MacKnight, VE9MA, Hinson Calkin, VE9CX and Bill Gillis, VE1WG.

Final

Recently, the crew that erected the R7 vertical antenna at the Club gathered for a photo.  At the R7 base are: Hinson Calkin, VE9CX, Marcel LeBlanc, VE9ML, Warren MacKnight, VE9MA, and Bill Gillis, VE1WG. Richard Steeves, VE1XL took the photo. In the background is the Club's HF Beam, VHF antennas and HF parallel dipole for 80-40-15.
