At the Wednesday morning social meeting at the clubhouse, SK VE9TM's brother Glenn stopped by to drop off some radios that the family wanted to give to the MAARC.
There were two Alinco 2 meter radios, a Kenwood TR-7950 2 meter radio, a 20 amp Astron P/S, an old Heathkit shortwave radio and a Zenith portable shortwave radio.
Having nothing to do today, I put the three transceivers through their paces. The Kenwood and one of the Alinco's are good to go, both Tx and Rcv. The other Alinco has issues. The Tx side is fine but there is no volume on receive. You can hear the speaker "pop" when it powers up and I opened it up and the speaker is plugged in. Also, an external speaker didn't change anything. I thought maybe a new volume pot would fix it but I noticed after being turned on for about 30 min that it was hot. Hot like it had been keyed down on high power for 5 minutes hot.
Maybe it can be a project for the Tinkerers to play with. I have taken it as far as I can and I don't want to burn the house down.
